An Analysis of Aisha's Hadith regarding the Night Prayer of the Prophet.

This study is a tahlili commentary on the hadith of Aisha RA which describes the nature of the Prophet Muhammad's night prayer. It is described that the Prophet's night prayer never exceeded thirteen raka'at in which each unit is performed consecutivley by four raka'at, then followed by another four rakaats and then closed with three raka'at of Witr. The Hanafi scholars view this Hadith textually. They say that the Prophet performed the prayer in four by four units of rakaat with each one closed by a salaam, and then completed it with another three rakaat. Other scholars understand the Hadith intertextually. They believe that the Prophet carried out the prayer in four rakaat altogether, then another four rakaats with a salaam at every two rakaats. It is also important to note that the Hanafi scholars argue that this Hadith did not refer to the Tarweeh prayer since Tarweeh prayer is performed in congregation, which should be relaxed.
